Mya Beaudry
Meet Mya. She is a 9 year old Algonquin girl from Kitigan Zibi First Nation. Her and her amazing momma Marcie started Kokom Scrunchies in October. It began initially as a fundraiser to pay for Mya to host a special at a a pow wow, which involved prize money and a giveaway for each participant. She was inspired to do this by her Aunt Dana, who she claims is her greatest female role model. Months later, she decided to turn Kokom Scrunchies into a proper business in March of this year.
Her advice to young entrepreneurs is to follow your dreams and if you have the opportunity, always say yes. She says to do what makes you happy and sell something you truly love and believe in. She feels this happiness when she sees people wearing the Kokom Scrunchies that she and her mother created.
The kindest thing that people have done for Mya is to support her every step of the way. She says there has been lots of kind words, love and support and that’s the best kindness. For example, Cheekbone Beauty added Kokom Scrunchies to their summer gift box which was huge and she thought that was very kind and amazing. But the best thing. she says, is when she get messages or pictures of people wearing their Kokom Scrunchies that’s the best feeling ever because they are happy and that makes her happy.
