The Lily Project was started by Anielka Medina who was inspired by her mother’s battle with cervical cancer. After Medina’s mother passed away, Medina was determined to ensure that women in rural Nicaragua had access to reproductive health services. In 2015, The Lily Project was created with a mission to “create healthier futures for women and girls in Nicaragua through a women-driven model of development and care.” Since its inception, The Lily Project has visited 590 villages, provided over 15,000 medical exams to women, saved over 1200 lives, and educated more than 20,000 girls.
